THE SHADOWS OF POWER AND GREED

Corruption is the abuse of power for personal or other people's benefit. Corruption can involve many activities including bribery, and embezzlement, and may also involve practices that are legal in many countries. Perpetrators of corruption are government employees or officials in strategic positions. News about corruption never seems to stop coloring the screen. Then we ask, their lives are already comfortable, salaries must be large, and everything is already owned, so what are the factors that cause corruption to run rampant.

The GONE theory reveals that a person who commits corruption is basically a greedy and insatiable person. There is never enough in a greedy corruptor. After greed and opportunity, a person is at risk of committing corruption if there is an excessive lifestyle that does not match the salary given. corruption is a crime committed by professionals, high positions, and a well-off life that makes a person no longer take into account halal and haram in seeking sustenance.

Corruption can occur when a person has a consumptive lifestyle, such as buying luxurious and expensive goods or following the trend of glamorous urban life, but is not balanced with adequate income. People are only more concerned with their prestige in order to look stunning and be able to buy anything. many items that are not actually basic items to buy for reasons of prestige and look good in the eyes of many people.

A person with weak morals is easily tempted to commit corruption. Aspects of weak morals include weak faith, honesty, or a sense of shame for committing acts of corruption. If a person's morals are weak, then the temptation of corruption will be difficult to resist. The temptation of corruption can come from superiors, peers, subordinates, or other parties who provide the opportunity to do so.

Thus, there are actually many factors that influence a person to commit corruption, such as greed, consumptive lifestyle and weak morals. What we need to remember is that the public must be educated about the dangers of corruption and the importance of reporting acts of corruption. With higher awareness, people can play an active role in monitoring. The law must be applied fairly and firmly to every perpetrator of corruption regardless of position. Clear and firm punishment can provide a deterrent effect.
